Welcome to handover training for the Outgoing Clinician

The outgoing clinician holds a great deal of influence over the dialogue and direction during the patient handover.

In many cases, the incoming clinician's first exposure to a patient comes from the outgoing clinician during the patient handover. This has a very mental model. As the incoming clinician's mental model is shaped by the outgoing clinician's perspective, the incoming clinician will be subject to the same confirmation biases or selective attention shortcomings.
